Battle Ground fireworks stand permit drawing is March 26

In three weeks, Battle Ground will hold its drawing for the city’s last available fireworks stand permit of the year.

Until this year, municipal code allowed the city to hand out permits for six stands — a figure based on a ratio of one stand for every 3,000 Battle Ground residents. The first six permits have been reserved since last year, but with the population recently passing the 18,000 mark, the city can now offer a seventh permit, city spokeswoman Bonnie Gilberti said.

The city will take applications for the drawing until 5 p.m. March 21, and the winner will be chosen by lot March 26. The winner must then submit a second application for the permit by 5 p.m. May 27.

Fireworks sales are allowed in Battle Ground each year from June 28 to July 5 and Dec. 27 to 31. Permits go only to service clubs and religious or charitable organizations that are either based in the city or offer some sort of benefit to Battle Ground residents, according to the municipal code.

For more information, applicants should call the city’s Community Development Department at 360-342-5047.
