Steve Olsen, associate superintendent and chief fiscal officer for Vancouver Public Schools, announced his retirement effective July 31. Hired in 2006, Olsen has streamlined procurement and management practices, improving efficiency and saving the district money, according to a news release announcing his plans.

School board members approved the hiring of Olsen’s successor at Tuesday’s board meeting. Brett Blechschmidt will begin work May 1, allowing a transition period for Blechschmidt to train with Olsen. Blechschmidt’s annual salary is $130,622.

Blechschmidt has worked for Educational Service District 112 for 19 years, most recently as assistant fiscal officer.
