The West Columbia Gorge Humane Society will host a 2-mile walk June 7 along the Columbia River in Washougal to benefit dogs and cats in need of homes.

The walk, called the Hike on the Dike, begins at 11 a.m. at the Pendleton Woolen Mills, 2 Pendleton Way in Washougal. This will be the sixth year the group has held the fundraiser in the city.

This year, the group aims to double attendance and raise $20,000. The money will go toward finding permanent homes for animals and raising awareness about cases of euthanasia in healthy or treatable pets.

Participants can register for the walk at 10:30 a.m. the day of the event in the parking lot outside the woolen mills. More than 20 venders will be there, and the first 50 registered walkers will be offered free microchipping for their dogs.
