OLYMPIA — Services are planned this weekend for Billy Frank Jr., the Nisqually tribal elder who fought for Indian fishing rights in Washington and was an advocate for salmon habitat.
He died Monday at his home near Olympia at the age of 83.
The Olympian reports a public viewing is set for noon to 5 p.m. Saturday at Mills and Mills Funeral Home in Tumwater.
A public funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Sunday in the Squaxin Island Tribe’s event center at the Little Creek Casino Resort in Shelton. Burial will follow at the Chief Leschi Cemetery on the Nisqually Indian Reservation.
