Memories of Mom: Always a twinkle in her eye

To say that my mother was fun would be an understatement.

Every summer my Mom, Dad, sister and I went on camping trips with my cousins; we laughed, hiked, played cards and had fun together and looked forward to those three weeks all year.

Those are some of the best moments of my life. If we had snow, we sledded. If we had sun, we played at the beach, swam, rode our horses or biked. If it rained, we played board games or made forts from chairs and blankets.

We made decorated cookies at Christmas, she taught us to cook and bake and she and dad also taught us respect, integrity and how to give back or pay it forward.

We learned a love for animals and doing anything outdoors. Lunch could become a picnic no matter where you were or what the weather was like.

Friends were always welcome at our house; she never made anyone feel uncomfortable.

Even toward the end of her life, living with cancer and Alzheimer’s, she had a twinkle in her eye and a smile on her face. She loved the Lord, her family and her friends.

If you were her friend, then you were family. I miss her.
