Letter: Focus should be on school program

The Columbian
Published: May 20, 2014, 5:00pm

It’s disheartening to see The Columbian report on Franklin Elementary’s traffic issues in the May 7 story, “Language program brings traffic, headaches to area: Parents, neighborhood learning to work together near Franklin Elementary School.”

The real story is how Vancouver Public Schools offers an exceptional educational program in foreign language and culture. Why not focus instead on why families drive in from all over the district to have their kids study at Franklin? The real story is how a public school in Vancouver is playing a vital role in encouraging global education. Instead, this article plays on petty neighborhood politics. The Columbian should realize that our world (and our interests) now extend far beyond our driveways.
