Preventing noise-induced hearing loss is the topic of the next Science on Tap Vancouver at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, at the Kiggins Theatre, 1011 Main St. Doors open at 6 p.m.

“Music to Your Ears? Brains, Sound, and How to Save Your Hearing” will be presented by Allison Coffin, assistant professor in the neuroscience department at Washington State University Vancouver. She will discuss the mechanical and neurological process of how we hear and how we can protect our ears. The band KMX will perform and provide demonstrations.

About 26 million Americans between the ages of 20 and 69 have some noise-induced hearing loss. Much of it could have been prevented by taking simple precautions.

Advance tickets are $8 online or a suggested $10 at the door. Beer, wine, pizza slices, popcorn and snacks will be available for purchase.

The event is produced in conjunction with WSU Vancouver. For details, visit www.viaproductions.org/events.
