Letter: Benefit doesn’t add up

I am a volunteer driver who takes people to the doctor, dentist, mental health appointments and grocery shopping. I don’t do it for the money, I do it to help those who can’t do it for themselves. Because if I did it for the money I would go broke really fast, which brings me to my point. Our Clark County commissioners just voted themselves an increase of $100 a month for vehicle expenses, bringing it to $700 a month, which I think is reprehensible.

With the three different rates I receive to drive these people, it would take me approximately 1,400 miles a month to get $700 a month. And that doesn’t include their $100,000-plus a year salary.

It bothers me. Do they drive 1,400 miles a month?
