Two FBI agents were shot and wounded early Wednesday while helping execute a search warrant at a home in north St. Louis County.

The two agents with the St. Louis division were rushed to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

FBI spokeswoman Rebecca Wu said one agent was shot in the shoulder and the other was shot in the leg. She said the incident was not related to the unrest in Ferguson.

The agents had been searching for Major Washington, 33, who is charged with shooting and killing his mother late Monday night and shooting and injuring a police officer.

It was not immediately known if Washington was in custody early Wednesday after the FBI agents were shot. Law enforcement remained on the scene and it was believed that Washington was still in the house.

Police got the call about 3 a.m. Wednesday.

Neighbors say they were not evacuated Tuesday night. One woman said she was told to stay inside and she chose to sleep in the basement to be away from windows while the standoff was going on.
