Letter: Charter increases representation

As I drive around Vancouver, I see signs that urge a “no” vote on the new Clark County charter because we don’t want “to lose our voice.” This comment makes no sense to me.

The new charter would increase the number of commissioners (at no extra cost). To me, that means more representation for us, not less. The charter also provides new ability to initiate legislation that is not possible now. Again, that increases our voice in government. Finally, the charter also separates the legislative and executive functions of county government. This concept is a key issue in our government that gives us checks and balances. We as citizens of Clark County deserve the same separation of power. Join me in voting “yes” on the charter.
