CAMAS — The Environmental Protection Agency is recognizing two Camas School District facilities for cutting down their energy consumption.

This fall, Lacamas Heights Elementary and the Zellerbach Administration Center earned the EPA’s Energy Star certification.

The distinction gives a tip of the hat to buildings with superior energy efficiency.

In the past half-decade, the district has worked toward a goal of reducing its total energy consumption by 17 percent. And district officials aim to extend that rate to 20 percent by 2020.

Now with the two latest certifications, all 10 of the district’s schools have won the award.

The Energy Stars will be presented during a school board meeting on Oct. 27 at the Zellerbach Administration Center, 841 N.E. 22nd Ave., Camas.
