Willamette Radio Workshop will re-enact “War of the Worlds” live in front of an audience at 7 p.m. Oct. 30 at the Kiggins Theatre, 1011 Main St. This free, public event celebrates the 76th anniversary of the original radio broadcast on Oct. 30, 1938.

Originally broadcast by Orson Welles and the Mercury Theater, the radio broadcast is based on the novel by H.G. Wells. The plot focuses on the conflict between Earth and an invading extraterrestrial race.

Directed by Sam A. Mowry, “War of the Worlds” is the first in a series of shows that will take place at Kiggins Theatre in a multimedia format that introduces student works alongside the live broadcasts.

The Willamette Radio Workshop recreates radio drama from the Golden Age of Radio, using only voice actors and Foley sound effects. To learn more about Willamette Radio Workshop, visit www.radiowork.com.

The re-enactment is part of “Radio Re-Imagined,” a collaboration between Washington State University Vancouver’s Creative Media and Digital Culture program, Willamette Radio Workshop and the Kiggins Theatre.

“Martians with Moustaches,” a retrospective of student works shown last year in the Nouspace Gallery & Media Lounge, will be on exhibit in the Kiggins lobby.
