The Oct. 6 story “Gorge commission requests bigger budget amid turmoil,” reporting that the Columbia River Gorge Commission needs more money, is no surprise. This group has been building roadblocks to any commercial progress and making life difficult for folks wanting to build in the Gorge for many years. They have made enemies in these activities.
Now, for my part, I don’t believe the bistate commission passes the test of the U.S. Constitution. However may I suggest a bit of help for this group?
First, activity should be limited to the strict provisions of the act, rather than trying to be involved in other areas such as the Columbia River Treaty.
Next, they should try building some bridges to replace the roadblocks. Though given the past record of some members I think this will be difficult.
