Remember the last time we were promised “change” would be better? Like we’ve seen at the federal level, change doesn’t always bring a brighter tomorrow, especially when politicians are driving the change for their own agenda and interests. That’s why I’m voting “no” on the proposed charter.
Bigger government, more bureaucracy and less accountability. This hasn’t worked at the federal or state levels, and we certainly don’t need this in Clark County. It may sound good to hear that the proposed charter will provide for two more elected county commissioners (called councilors). However, what they don’t tell you is the charter actually prevents these elected councilors from working actively on your behalf to resolve a citizen’s problem or issue due to a separation of powers.
The charter promises the people a voice through an initiative process. They fail to tell you this initiative process is basically useless. It cannot be used to repeal taxes or fees, change a policy, or amend or repeal the charter (see Section 7.2.A). If the proposed charter passes, we will not be able to undo it. I urge you to get the facts at www.votenocharter.com and join me in voting “no.”
