RAYMOND, Wash. — The first of seven public meetings to draft a new policy for Willapa Bay salmon fisheries begins at 2 p.m. Saturday at Raymond High School, 1017 Commercial St.

Washington’s Department of Fish and Wildlife plans to adopt in February a policy setting conservation and economic objectives for sport and commercial salmon fishing in Willapa Bay.

Similar policies are in place for the Columbia River and Grays Harbor.

The public meetings will include Saturday’s open house, three sessions of the Willapa Bay salmon management advisory group and three workshops.

The first meeting of the advisory group will begin at 6 p.m. Monday, also at Raymond High School. The first public workshop will be 4 to 7 p.m. Nov. 1 at the high school.
