Work on the installation of deep underground utilities for the Columbia Way extension will start Monday at the south end of Columbia Street.

Nutter Corp. will be installing water, sewer and stormwater pipes, according to a press release from the Port of Vancouver.

Adjacent businesses will be accessible, but there will be lane closures and possible delays.

Nutter was awarded the $850,000 contract in August by the port, which is working on the waterfront access project with the city of Vancouver and developer Columbia Waterfront LLC.

Columbia Way will be the east-west access road to the development site.

Columbia Waterfront, a group of private investors, plans to redevelop the 30-acre former Boise Cascade mill site into a vibrant mix of retail and residential buildings, plus a hotel and greenspace, with the city constructing a 10-acre park.
