JEFFERSON, Ore. — Two people and a dog were rescued Saturday off a bank of the Santiam River north of Albany after the canoe they were in flipped.

Jefferson Fire Chief Jon Zeilman said they were not injured.

The incident happened at about 10:30 a.m. near where the main fork of the Santiam pours into the Willamette River.

Zeilman said after the canoe overturned, the people and their dog couldn’t scale the steep cliff.

An Albany Fire Department boat picked them up.
