Skyview High grad Kara (Patterson) Winger had the best throw Friday in the women’s javelin at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa.

Her top mark of 193 feet, 9 inches easily outdistance the field of collegiate throwers.

“Not far enough for my taste, but I’m encouraged by my series and how I’m starting to feel again,” Winger posted on Instagram.

She showed off her first “WINGER” competition bib since getting married last fall.

Winger, competing for sponsor Asics, was not eligible to win the event.

Freya Jones, a junior at Georgia, was the official winner at 168-0.

Winger’s throw was just short of the meet record of 194-4 set in 1983. But Winger does hold the Drake Stadium record — 218-9 — the American record she set in 2010.
