GRANTS PASS, Ore. — Oregon’s biggest wildfire is now 40 percent contained at 37 square miles.
The Oregon Department of Forestry reports Monday crews hope to have the Stouts fire in the southern Cascade foothills east of Canyonville fully contained a week from Tuesday. The nearby Cable Crossing fire six miles east of Glide is 80 percent contained.
Meanwhile, the Umpqua National Forest reports three new wildfires on the Diamond Lake Ranger district, with red flag warnings posted for thunderstorms and high fire danger. The Potter Complex 28 miles south of Oakridge is 65 percent contained at 320 acres.
Smoke from the fires is still making the air unhealthy in Shady Cove on the upper Rogue River, but last week’s heavy smoke in Grants Pass and Medford has dissipated with a change in the wind.
