OLYMPIA — Aug. 25 will be a free day for visitors to Washington state parks in honor of the 99th birthday of the National Park Service.

Visitors to Washington state parks will not need a Discover Pass to visit state parks on that day. Fees will not be waived for overnight stays or facility rentals on Aug. 25, but parking will be free for the day.

The state has up to 12 free park days a year. The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission is planning two more free days for the year: Sept. 26 in honor of National Public Lands Day and Nov. 11 in honor of Veterans Day.
