Save the Date: Have a ball at Hoops on the River — and much more

Already seen all there is to see at the Clark County Fair? Here’s some alternative weekend activities. Watch basketball of all levels taking place around Esther Short Park, West Eighth and Columbia streets, during Hoops on the River. From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Sunday 180 teams of three compete, free to watch, with the fan-favorite Slam Dunk Contest taking place at noon today. 360-921-2429 or www.hoopsontheriver.org

The R&B band Lloyd Jones and The Struggle will perform at Three Brothers Vineyard and Winery, 2411 N.E. 244th St., Ridgefield. Open to all ages, concertgoers are encouraged to bring blankets, picnic food and lawn chairs for this summer concert in the grapevines. The performance begins at 6 p.m. Sunday, with tickets $10 online, slightly higher at the gate. www.threebrotherswinery.com

Start planning for these upcoming events to finish out summer. Urban Abundance and Slow Food Southwest Washington will host a Harvest Celebration and community cider pressing at 5 p.m. Aug. 21. Help harvest pears from the Foley Community Orchard for the Clark County Food Bank with Urban Abundance, or bring fruit to donate. There will be three cider presses to make cider along with yard games and music by Lincoln’s Beard. For cider, please bring a jug to fill and clean apples. Evergreen Habitat for Humanity hosts its first ReMaker’s Fair, highlighting the creativity of do-it-yourself projects and upcycling. There will be workshops, DIY activities, music and a ReFashion demonstration. An art auction will be held, with proceeds benefiting the Women Build Program. The fair runs 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 22 at the Clark County Habitat for Humanity Store, 10811 S.E. Second St., Vancouver. www.ehfh.org

The SUP Salmon Classic Paddleboard Race hosts its second event 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 30 at Captain William Clark Park’s Cottonwood Beach in Washougal. Spectators can watch as novice and youth participants take on the 2-mile course, recreational paddleboarders compete on the 4-mile course and the 8-mile course featuring professional-level competitors. Registration is open until Aug. 28, $50 for 4- and 8-mile courses, $30 for youth and novices. There will also be music, board demonstrations, a beer garden and a free clinic by top SUP racer Fiona Wylde. www.supsalmonclassic.com

For water-loving dogs, the third annual Pooch Plunge lets them jump in the pool 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sept. 6. The city of Vancouver will open up the Marshall Community Center’s pool to canine swimmers, along with dog-themed activities for Bark in the Park. There will be a canine fashion show, fly ball and agility course demonstrations and more.
