WALLA WALLA — Tom Baltes of Camas rode from Walla Walla to Clarkston Wednesday, which was day No. 4 in his attempt to ride 4,000 miles across America.

The bicycle trip is to raise awareness and money for the Arthritis Foundation and Volkssporting. Baltes has two siblings with rheumatoid arthritis.

He began his trip Sunday in Seaside, Ore. He has completed 363 miles in four days.

Baltes’ ride plan calls for him to arrive in South Portland, Maine, on Oct. 4, a journey of 3,890 miles. He has eight rest days scheduled.

His progress can be followed via his website at www.tomsbikeride.wordpress.com.
