NEW YORK — Broadway shows will soon be much cheaper to see — at least for a few weeks next month.

Some 22 shows are participating in Broadway Week, in which two tickets go for the price of one. These special tickets went on sale Thursday for performances only during Sept. 7-20.

The participating shows are “Aladdin,” “Amazing Grace, “An American in Paris,” “Beautiful: The Carole King Musical,” “Chicago,” “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time,” “Finding Neverland,” “Fun Home,” “A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder,” “Hand to God,” “Hedwig and the Angry Inch,” “Jersey Boys,” “The King and I,” “Kinky Boots,” “Les Miserables,” “The Lion King,” “Matilda the Musical,” “Old Times,” “The Phantom of the Opera,” “Something Rotten!” “Spring Awakening” and “Wicked.”

Broadway Week is a biannual promotion designed to increase ticket sales during the typically slower periods of winter and fall.

Fans of “Kinky Boots” can also get an even better deal: To celebrate the show’s 1,000th Broadway performance, the first 50 people in line wearing red shoes when the box office opens at 10 a.m. Aug. 26 will get free tickets to that night’s show.

Also, Tony-winner Billy Porter will be on hand to pick the three most fabulous pairs of footwear, and winners will get to join the cast backstage after the show.
