Letter: Tesoro escapes paying of fines

The Columbian

It’s nice to learn that Vancouver Energy has the funds required to distribute the fancy propaganda package I received in the mail this week. However, I think that whatever amount was contributed by Tesoro to this partnership effort would have been more properly, and morally, spent if they had used it to pay down fines levied against them for safety violations at their refinery in Anacortes, causing the deaths of seven employees in an explosion that resulted.

They must have ample cash available to spend on their own interests because they fought these fines in court for years. Lawyers at that level don’t work cheap. This is a company we do not need as a neighbor and certainly not as an employer.
