State restaurant, lodging associations partnering

The Columbian

The Washington Restaurant Association and the Washington Lodging Association are strengthening a partnership that the organizations say will lead to the creation one of the state’s largest trade associations next year.

The two business advocacy organizations have worked since Oct. 1 under a joint operating agreement that has combined staff and operational functions in the restaurant association’s Olympia office. To date, the associations remain separate legal entities with independent boards of directors, but the two boards hold joint meetings and are governed by a joint executive committee. Anthony Anton, the restaurant association’s president and chief executive officer, is also serving as the lodging association’s CEO.

The associations say their next collaborative step is to launch a unified hospitality association under a new brand in 2016. The new association will have more than 6,000 members and advocate on behalf of an industry that employs more than 250,000 workers and generates $17.7 billion in revenue annually.
