The Port of Ridgefield will build a  31,400-square-foot building to house the regional headquarters of the Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife under a deal being negotiated with the state, the port said Tuesday. Fish & Wildlife’s approximately 100 employees would relocate to Ridgefield from the current regional office in Vancouver.

The announcement follows a decision by the Washington State Department of Enterprise Services to name the port the “apparent successful proposer” to build and lease the office space to Fish & Wildlife. The final step is for the two parties to negotiate a mutually acceptable agreement.

The estimated construction cost of the project is $8 million on a port-owned site at South 11th Street. In addition to the office facility, plans call for 8,000 square feet of covered, secure storage.

If an agreement is reached, building design and permitting would begin in January and construction would be completed in early 2017, the port said.
