Girls basketball: La Center 55, Woodland 48

A solid start carried the visiting Wildcats to the non-league win in the season opener for both teams.

La Center led 30-16 at halftime and by 19 after three quarters. Woodland, which battled early foul trouble, rallied to get within five points in the third quarter.

Taylor Mills had 15 points and six rebounds for La Center. Andrea Griffee had five assists and Bethany Whitten had five rebounds, four steals and three assists.

Jessica Flanagan scored 23 points and 12 rebounds for Woodland. Kayla Fredericks scored 13 points and Amber Malik had eight rebounds and four steals.
