SEATTLE — State officials are advising Washington residents to wait until Thursday to drive over the mountain passes for their holiday celebrations.
The Seattle Times reports meteorologists are expecting another intense snowstorm in the North Cascades by late Wednesday. They say it could drop between a foot and 2.5 feet of snow.
A spokesman for the Washington State Department of Transportation says drivers should check the department’s mountain-pass reports before heading over Snoqualmie and Stevens passes. And pack blankets, food and water for the trip.
At 7 a.m. Wednesday, chains were required on both Cascade passes for all vehicles except those with four-wheel drive. Stevens Pass is reporting gusty winds and blowing snow.
