Rabia Chaudry, the friend and advocate for Adnan Syed who brought his story to the attention of public radio’s Sarah Koenig, is writing a book about the imprisoned man’s case.

Syed, who was convicted of the 1999 murder of Woodlawn High School senior Hae Min Lee, his former girlfriend, has been imprisoned in Maryland ever since.

“Serial,” Koenig’s podcast about the case, became a pop-culture sensation as the most downloaded podcast in history.

Last month, a Baltimore judge granted a motion to reopen post-conviction proceedings, which will allow new evidence to be introduced on behalf of Syed.

Chaudry, a Maryland lawyer, started her own podcast, “Undisclosed,” once “Serial” ended.

The book, which is scheduled for publication in September 2016, by St. Martin’s Press, is titled “Adnan’s Story: Murder, Justice, and the Case That Captivated a Nation.”
