A four-vehicle crash on Interstate 84 in Portland resulted in serious injury this morning.

The crash, reported at 6:39 a.m. near 122nd Ave., blocked all westbound traffic on the highway for several hours, according to the Portland Police Bureau.

One lane of I-84 is now open and all lanes are expected to be open at 10 a.m., according to Portland police.

A 29-year-old male is in critical condition at a Portland hospital after being ejected from his vehicle, according to police.

Preliminary investigation by police indicates that the injured driver was traveling west and swerved into the left emergency lane to avoid stopped traffic where the vehicle struck an unoccupied, abandoned car and then rolled to a stop. A third car was damaged in the crash but the driver of that car was not injured.

Speed appears to be a factor in this crash, police said. The injured driver was not impaired by drugs or alcohol.

Westbound traffic was being diverted off of I-84 at 181st Avenue and alternate routes include Airport Way, Marine Drive and Halsey Street, police said.

The agency’s major crash team is responding to investigate.
