Letter: Religious text reveals harsh rules

Regarding the Feb. 8 letter “Biblical principles fundamental,” Connie Meuchel feels that using the Bible as the law of the land would make America a utopian paradise. Apparently, she is not as well read with regard to her religious text. There is not enough space to list all the ridiculous biblical rules, but here are a few very horrible rules.

Psalm 137:9 encourages throwing one’s children against stones. Timothy 2:11 suppresses women’s rights. Luke 16:18 declares that divorce and remarriage is adultery. Matthew 10:35-127 is against the family. Mark 12:19 encourages adultery with one’s brother’s wife. Leviticus 20:9 encourages killing one’s own children for verbal disagreements. Deuteronomy 22:20-21 demands that non-virgins be stoned.

I have read many religious books, and all encourage barbaric acts of violence. Therefore, Meuchel can live in her “utopian paradise” but never in my country.
