Girls basketball: La Center 59, Eatonville 28

A solid defensive effort helped the Wildcats get the first-round win in the 1A district tournament and a date with Elma in the next round.

La Center (18-3) held Eatonville to four points in both the second and third quarters on its way to the win.

Katie Whitten had 14 points, eight assists and seven steals for La Center. Shelby Vermuelen had 10 points, seven rebounds and three blocked shots, Andrea Griffee had 10 points and Taylor Mills nine points and nine rebounds.

La Center will play Elma at 8 p.m. Tuesday at W.F. West High School.
