Vancouver’s Daniel Seavey advanced to the next round of “American Idol,” securing him a spot in the live performances that start next week.

His performance in front of an audience at the House of Blues in Hollywood aired tonight on Fox.

The 15-year-old sang “Straight Up,” a Paula Abdul song that he also performed for his audition. The audience clapped along with Seavey while he played guitar.

“You know, we’ve been impressed with you from the beginning. You’re so young,” judge Jennifer Lopez said. “As you know, this is a really tough process. (There are) great singers out there … and you’re one of them, and we want you to be in the Top 24.”

After getting the news that he’ll be among the Top 24 contestants, Seavey appeared relieved and thanked the judges.

“I’m so proud of you,” said his father, Jeff Seavey.

The Union High School student is the youngest contestant still in the running to be the next “American Idol.”
