Battle Ground — River HomeLink recently received a $5,000 grant from the Center for Strengthening the Teaching Profession.

The grant is to build teacher leadership at the school, and a team of five teachers will use it to establish a professional development program. The grant will buy books for all teachers and staff, pay for a professional development curriculum program with video tutorials from Mindset Works and cover stipends for the team to develop a blog and discussion groups.

According to the school, growth mindset is a philosophy covered in a book by psychologist Carol Dweck in which “people can develop their most basic abilities through dedication and hard work … brains and talent are just the starting point.”

The Mindset Works curriculum will also be shared with parents, and the team of teachers will implement the program school-wide.
