The Portland Trail Blazers announced Monday that a public celebration of life honoring franchise icon Jerome Kersey will be held at 4 p.m. March 2 at Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
“The community is invited to join the family, friends, teammates and colleagues of former Trail Blazers great Jerome Kersey to pay respect to one of the best players in team history and a cherished member of the Portland community,” the team said in a release.
Kersey, who died Feb. 18 at 52, elped lead the Trail Blazers to the NBA Finals twice during an 11-year Portland career as part of some of the franchise’s most successful teams from 1984-95. He played 17 seasons in the NBA and won an NBA championship with San Antonio in 1999.
Shortly following his NBA career, Kersey moved back to Portland as a beloved and impactful member of the community. Kersey was an original member of the Trail Blazers Alumni Ambassador program formed in 2007, and he most recently held the role of director of alumni relations for the organization.
