Battle Ground police are asking for the public to help identify a burglar who came face-to-face with the resident of a house he was burglarizing.

The burglary was reported in the 12000 block of 245th Street in Battle Ground at about 2:30 p.m.

The resident was home when a man tried to break in, police said. After spotting the resident, the burglar fled. Battle Ground police searched the area but could not locate a suspect.

The victim in the case provided the following description of the burglar: a thinly built white male in his late 20s or early 30s, about 5 feet 11 inches tall, clean-shaven, no glasses and no obvious tattoos or jewelry. At the time of the burglary, he was wearing a light shirt and light gray pants, and may have been wearing a stocking cap, police said.

A neighbor saw an older-model small red SUV similar to a Geo Tracker in the area at the time of the burglary, according to Battle Ground police.

Anyone with information on the suspect or who has information on the incident is asked to contact Det. Phil Anderson at 360-342-5244 or by email at philip.anderson@cityofbg.org. Anonymous tips can also be left at www.cityofbg.org/tips.
