LACEY — A New Year’s fight between two brothers who had been drinking early Thursday ended with one of them dead in a street near Lacey.

The Thurston County sheriff’s office says the fight between the 35-year-old and 37-year-old brothers spilled outside and two 22-year-olds from a nearby house intervened.

Lt. Cliff Ziesemer says one of the 22-year-olds was armed. A shot was fired as the older brother tried to disarm him. The 37-year-old died at the scene.

The shooting was determined to be self-defense. No one was arrested.

The Olympian reports both 22-year-olds are active-duty soldiers at Joint Base Lewis-McChord.
