Camas plans second ‘Vision Summit’

City leaders continue efforts to solicit community feedback as part of the comprehensive planning process.

Citizens are invited to the second of two Vision Summit events that will be held Thursday, Jan. 8, at 6 p.m., at Lacamas Lake Lodge, 227 N.E. Lake Road. The first was held in November.

Participants will gather in groups and use maps to indicate what they envision for the future of Camas — parks, open space, and residential, commercial and business development — and where it should be located. Attendees will also have the opportunity to view the results of a recent community survey aimed at refining the draft vision and identifying the actions that should be taken to implement it over the next 20 years.

The visioning process, which began in July, is part of the city’s effort to update its 20-year comprehensive plan, which is required by the state’s Growth Management Act. It must be completed by June 2016.

The city’s comprehensive plan and development regulations were most recently revised in 2004, when the city’s population was 15,370. The city’s current population is 20,880, and is expected to increase to 34,410 by 2035, according to projections.

The comprehensive plan provides guidelines to direct public and private decisions regarding growth, land use, transportation, public facilities and services, as well as parks and open space.
