Timbers post 2-0 preseason victory

The Portland Timbers opened their preseason on Saturday with a 2-0 win over Sporting Kansas City in Tucson, Ariz.

Gaston Fernandez converted a first-half penalty pick and Michael Nanchoff scored from 19 yards on a second-half free kick.

The Timbers played 11 different players in each half, opening with their top available lineup.

Portland will play two more matches while in Tucson. The Timbers take on Houston on Feb. 7 and San Jose on Feb 10. They play home preseason games on Feb. 22, Feb. 25 and Feb. 28.
