LAKEWOOD — A patient at Western State Hospital, one of Washington’s two psychiatric hospitals, was found dead in a portable bathroom.

The Tacoma News Tribune reports that officials found the patient in the bathroom on hospital grounds on Thursday.

Lakewood Police Lt. John Unfred says there were no signs of foul play or suicide. He says detectives are investigating the death.

The man, who was in his 30s, had “grounds privileges” and went outside Wednesday night. Hospital staff members reported him missing at about 8:30 p.m. when he didn’t return to his ward.

Unfred says his body was found about 8 a.m. Thursday.

His name was not released, pending notification of next of kin.
