Portland activist files for dismissal of sex-related charges

EUGENE, Ore. — A prominent political fundraiser and gay rights activist is seeking to have multiple sex-related charges against him dismissed.

The Register-Guard reports 66-year-old Terrence Patrick Bean of Portland filed a motion Thursday to have the charges dismissed based on claims that a compromise has been reached with the victim in the case. However, District Attorney Erik Hasselman in an email Monday said the state is opposed to that motion.

Bean was arrested in November in connection with a 2013 incident in which he and another man allegedly had sex with a 15-year-old boy in a Eugene hotel room. Bean’s attorney has claimed that the charges were linked to an alleged extortion plot.

A hearing on Bean’s latest motion to dismiss charges is expected for next week.
