PORTLAND — An Aloha woman accused of trying to suffocate her children when they were babies has pleaded guilty to criminal mistreatment.

The Oregonian reports that 24-year-old Rosa Vasquez-Vasquez signed a plea deal Tuesday.

Investigators say Vasquez-Vasquez told them that when her now-4-year-old was 18 months old she put a plastic bag over his head. She also said that when her now 2-year-old was one month old she pushed his face into a mattress. Both times she stopped when the children’s breath became labored.

Vasquez-Vasquez had come forward to report that she was a victim of long-term abuse when she admitted her actions to authorities.

Her plea agreement stipulates she could get probation or more than 18 months in prison at her sentencing Aug. 11.
