SEATTLE — Despite requests that those attending Seattle’s Alaska Airlines Seafair Torchlight Parade to keep their phones away, the Seattle Police Department didn’t take their own advice, tweeting a selfie featuring the chief of police at the event.

The Seattle Times reports that at last year’s parade the area’s cellular networks were stressed by cellphone users during the event. This year the department asked parade-goers to limit phone calls and social media use to keep the networks working.

Media spokesman Sgt. Sean Whitcomb says the selfie wasn’t intended to be hypocritical and that the misstep is a good reminder to practice what you preach.
