A fire in a Salmon Creek mobile home was started by charging lithium-ion batteries, according to the Clark County Fire Marshal’s Office.

Neighbors heard snapping and popping and called 911 at about 10 p.m. Saturday, sending crews from Clark County Fire District 6 to the fire at Columbia North Mobile Home Park, 14202 N.E. 10th Ave.

Firefighters arrived to find smoke and fire inside the home, but brought the blaze under control.

Deputy Fire Marshal Curtis Eavenson said that the fire was accidental and was sparked by lithium-ion battery packs that were being charged while the residents ran an errand.

Eavenson said that some of these rechargeable batteries have had issues, and it is a good idea to stay at home when recharging them.
