BEND, Ore. — Oregon State University-Cascades has gotten state board approval to move forward with plans to construct a 10-acre campus on the west side of Bend.

The Bend Bulletin reports the Land Use Board of Appeals approved the project Tuesday.

OSU-Cascades’ plan had already been approved by the Bend City Council, but a group of residents opposing the plan appealed to the state board.

Attorney for the group, Jeffrey Kleinman, has argued that the university hid its intention to eventually develop more land. Next door to the 10-acre site is 46 acres that includes a former pumice mine.

In its decision, the board only considered the 10-acre plot owned by the university.

Kleinman says the group plans to appeal to the Oregon Court of Appeals.
