62nd annual Rose Show: 1 to 4 p.m. June 20 at First Church of God, 3300 N.E. 78th St., Vancouver. The event is the largest of its kind in Washington and the second largest in the country. More than 1,000 varieties of roses on display. Guided tours of the show, 1 to 3 p.m.; workshop on designing a rose garden with companion plants, 2 to 2:45 p.m.; awards, 3 p.m. All rose growers may enter roses, 6 to 10 a.m. June 20, and vases and supplies will be provided. Gardening with Native Plants: 10 a.m. to noon June 20 at CASEE, 11104 N.E. 149th St., Building B, Room 206, Brush Prairie. Learn about a variety of native plants that can be incorporated into your property, resources for acquiring them, and stroll through the native plant area of the Wildlife Botanical Gardens. Worm Composting Workshop:
10 a.m. to noon June 20 at Columbia Springs, 12208 S.E. Evergreen Highway, Vancouver. Learn the care and feeding of red worms and discover how they can help turn fruit and vegetable scraps from the kitchen into food for your garden or houseplants. Children must be at least age 5 to participate. Cost is $35, with a worm bin to take home; free without a worm bin. Registration required. Burkhart’s Highland Farm Tour:
6:30 to 8:30 p.m. June 25 in Brush Prairie. The 8-acre farm features horses and organically grown vegetables and fruits. In 2013, it was recognized by WSU Clark County Extension as a model property for demonstrating a commitment to stewardship by implementing practices to control runoff, reduce mud, manage manure, and maintain healthy pastures. Tour participants will hear tips on keeping horses and improving organic-management practices. Registration required and tour size is limited. $10. Master Gardener conference

WSU Master Gardener Advanced Education Conference: noon, Sept. 16, through 12:30 p.m., Sept. 19, at Hilton Vancouver Washington, 301 W. Sixth St., Vancouver. There will be 32 seminars covering horticulture, environmental issues, food gardening, and volunteer leadership skills, and the opportunity to go on one of three tours. $179 includes meals. Master Gardener training


WSU Extension Clark County Master Gardener Program:
8:45 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesdays, Aug. 26 through Nov. 18 in Vancouver. Topics include plant identification, weeds, soil and compost, pest and disease management. Computer skills required. Participants agree to volunteer 50 hours the first year and 35 each year thereafter, to maintain status. $245.
