Battle Ground schools urged to weigh facilities bond measure

The board of directors at Battle Ground Public Schools should consider bringing a bond measure to voters as early as February. That was the recommendation a group of volunteers, the district’s Facilities Improvement Team, made at a school board work session Monday night after months of studying facility needs.

Burgeoning new home construction will require more classrooms and schools be built, according to their report. In the next 20 years, about 7,000 homes will be built in the district.

May was the largest month ever for new home construction impact fees that the county and the city of Battle Ground pass along to the school district. Money collected from impact fees helps accommodate enrollment growth through buying new land or installing modular classrooms.
