Crossbow killed man at Olympic National Park campground

PORT ANGELES — A man found dead at a campground in Olympic National Park in Washington state was shot in the head with an arrow from a crossbow, and authorities are trying to determine how it happened.

There’s no obvious evidence of a crime, but the death of Christopher E. Boysen remains under investigation, said Mark Nichols, the Clallam County prosecutor and coroner.

Boysen, 54, left his apartment in Joyce on Jan. 22 to go camping. His body was found Feb. 4 after his landlord reported him missing.

Boysen’s sister, Kimberly Boysen of Mastic, New York, said Wednesday her brother owned a crossbow and used it for target shooting. She said authorities haven’t told her whether his death was an accident, homicide or suicide.

“That’s what they’re trying to determine,” she told The Peninsula Daily News. “It’s all up in the air. All of it.”

Investigators told Kimberly Boysen they found no suicide letter where her brother’s body was discovered — space No. 18 in the Heart o’ the Hills campground, near the park’s Port Angeles entrance.

Christopher Boysen registered at the campground Jan. 24 under a four-day permit, the Port Angeles newspaper reported. His Jeep Grand Cherokee was found there.
