Shahala Middle School will host its third annual free sci-fi fantasy family night/book fair from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the school’s library, 601 S.E. 192nd Ave. All families are welcome.

Activities include a Scholastic Book Fair, sci-fi costume and trivia contests, prizes, activities and crafts, said Paul Warner, the school’s teacher-librarian.

Guests can pose for photos with costumed members of the Star Wars 501st Legion and superheroes from the Portland Superhero Coalition. In past events, Darth Vader, stormtroopers, clone troopers, Boba Fett and others attended, Warner said.

Book fair proceeds will benefit the school library and Gale’s Creek Camp for children and teens with diabetes. Donations also will be accepted.
