Letter: Affordability drives our decisions

Those who snicker at environmentalists who drive gasoline-powered cars are short-sighted. We, ordinary people, use the form of transportation that is most affordable and available to us. That is how it’s always been. Royalty were carted in golden coaches while peasants walked or bought a horse or mule. It’s strictly a matter of cost and access.

Hybrid and electric cars are more available than they have ever been and people are buying them.

Yes, fossil-fuel products will be around for a long time as I don’t foresee a plastic-free world any time soon. But it’s time we stop using coal, oil and gas to generate heat and fuel our cars. We just need to stop burning the stuff — it isn’t good for us.
